About IV Sedation

Patients who suffer from extreme anxiety in the dentist's chair often request some form of sedation. If they are especially nervous, IV sedation offers the highest forms of relaxation that a dentist can offer.

IV sedation is administered through the vein, and absorbs directly into the bloodstream. It is used to subdue patients to, or almost at, a sleep state. If you are a medical professional who would like to provide the service of putting patients "to sleep" during specific procedures, you must meet the following specifications:

• Attend general anesthesia seminars
• Complete an anesthesiology residency
• Pass periodic on-site inspections

Caring for patients who are completely under, takes a large amount of responsibility, and thus, rigorous training. Therefore, if meeting the above requirements, you can receive a permit for general anesthesia.

Additionally, our dentists offer anesthesia courses dedicated to oral sedation. Because all types of sedation are different, it is important that you be familiar with the various processes that anesthesia entails.
